A6 sized 'Ideas Book' ['Leabhar na Smaointe'], numbered 'No.3' and dating from my time studying on the HND Multimedia course at City College Manchester [1997]. The sketchbook covers my brainstorming for two college projects; a calendar, and a poem illustration [which, judging from the comments and half-arsed approach to developing ideas for it, I loathed].
Nostalgists and fans of retro-futurism may enjoy references to long defunct software applications, such as Infini-D and Videoshop and gadgetry such as the Apple Quicktake* camera –which would have been white-heat cutting edge technology at the time.
[*OFF-TOPIC ASIDE: It’s quite sad really. I’ve always been such a gadget freak that; when I got the once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Australia for a couple of months to train up, when I got the job with Adacel, I asked to borrow one of the shiny new QuickTake cameras from college, to take with me. So, as a result, my entire photographic archive of that Aussie adventure consists of a handful of shitty 640x480 digital photos of unbelievably shite quality. If I’d just taken a traditional film camera, instead of trying to be 'cutting edge', I’d have had some proper quality images to look back on.
And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, whatever homegrown CoDec Apple used for the QuickTake’s images has long been abandoned by Apple. So the only way to even open the shitty snaps is via a virtualPC running MacOS 8. What a total and utter fuck-up!]
